AWARD Award Finalists Have Been Announced - Here's the WA Contingent

Who is AWARD?

AWARD, The Australasian Writers and Art Directors - is a non-political, non-profit organisation with a single purpose: to raise creative standards in all forms of commercial communication.

The 46th AWARD Award Finalists have just been announced and we wanted to highlight the WA finalists and tell you more about their campaigns.

Next up, VML.

VML - HER Board for Luma

Finalist in the PURPOSE | CHARITY category, Design subcategory.

HER Board is a groundbreaking initiative developed by Luma - Western Australia's largest not-for-profit dedicated to women's health and wellbeing.

Rare - The Black Puppy for WA Primary Health Alliance

In a world-first approach to fundraising for domestic violence support, HER Board invites people to sponsor a woman escaping abuse - reframing support as a long-term commitment rather than a one-off donation.

The initiative positions giving as a seat on a 'board', appealing to professional women who understand leadership, investment and agency.

“Our goal was to go beyond charity clichés and create a brand that reflects strength, not victimhood,”

said Melissa Radman, Design Director at VML.

“We wanted the design to feel powerful, modern and empowering - a direct expression of what it means for a woman to reclaim her autonomy.”

Developed by a female-led team in collaboration with Luma, the creative platform was styled as a Board to cut through in the professional space and shift perception from charity to collective responsibility.

LinkedIn was selected as the lead channel to reach high-impact individuals, with board members sponsoring one woman each through fixed-term tenure funding. The design system combines bold typography, symbolic colour, and minimal identity cues to signal clarity, confidence and action.

Members are encouraged to share their involvement and nominate others, supported by downloadable digital assets designed to drive visibility and momentum.

HER Board launched earlier last year with immediate impact. Within its first month, 20 sponsors signed on. Based on early uptake, Luma projects a 2060% increase in annual donations - a transformational shift in long-term funding for women affected by domestic violence.

“This is more than a campaign,”

said Paula Keemy, Creative Director at VML.

“It's a movement to restore dignity, confidence and sustained support to women who need it most.”
